WE SHOULD NOT DISPLACE OUR RESPONSIBILITIES

On Monday, February 24, 2020, a general clergy meeting took place at the Spiritual Centre of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, under the direction of his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios. Protopresbyter father George Milkas was the main speaker, theologian, priest in the Holy Church of Evangelistria in Evosmos and priest of the Holy Metroopolis of Neapoli and Stavroupoli, in Thessaloniki, who talked about the following topic: ” Approaching the young people in the family, the parish and the confession”.

The speaker, also using contemporary elders speeches, such as Saints Porphyrius, Paisios, Siloan the Athonite, Amphilochios in Patmos and examples of his rich pastoral experience, emphasized that our young people today seek authenticity. They are tired of hypocrisy and inconsistency of words and works. They still want creative participation in parish life, love, discretion and not excessive rigor. He demonstrated that the organization of places such as camps, where young people can leave the monopoly of mobile phones and the Internet, to discuss authentically not only listening but experiencing the word of God, as well as the existence of priests who primarily listen Respectful and caring are elements that make designing easier.

The Bishop of Corfu, after thanking and congratulating the speaker for all his ministry and what he said inspired by the experience, emphasized to the priests that it is time to stop shifting our responsibilities to the difficulties of the day, to pause for a while. , passivity and waiting. It takes more sacrifice and dedication.

Following the presentation, a discussion followed and at the end of the meeting the representatives of the Metropolis at the General Assembly of Holy Assembly of the Priests in Greece (HAPG) informed the priests of all those who were there.
