We should dare to confess Christ

On Sunday, April 22, 2018, his Eminence , the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon in Spartylas village.

In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu mentioned the people that our Church celebrates today, that is Joseph from Arimathaia, Nicodemus, the nocturnal Disciple of Christ, both of them were members of the Jewish Conference, along with the Myrrh-bearer women, Maria the Magdalene, Maria of Jacob and Salome. Joseph and Nicodemus demanded from Pilatus, the Glorious Body of the Saviour Christ.

The Myrrh- bearer women prepared the Lord’s Body for the burial. The one thing worth mentioning is the daring and boldness of these people, at the time when the Disciples of Christ were hiding fearing the Jews. The faith of Joseph, Nicodemus and the Myrrh- bearer women eliminated any feat that they might have had.

He also pointed out that the example of Joseph, Nicodemus and the Myrrh- bearer women is one that we all have to follow and dare to confess Christ, at a time when the fights against Faith and Church are intensified and the institution of the family is being attacked. At Christ’s time, the Jewish Conference condemned to death, the Lord of Glory.

Today, our lawless Parliament votes laws against God and moral principles, burning the base of the Greek community. The most recent “monstrosity” has to do with a law that will allow the child-bearing of homosexual couples. Their aim is to deplete even the last attempt of resistance that this nation has and has kept it strong throughout so many centuries, through deprivation, wars and slavery. Our Nation was kept alive by Faith in Jesus Christ. He is the one fought by the ones in power.

In his closing, Mr. Nektarios invited the faithful Christians to intensify their prayers and remain stable to their faith in the Risen from the Dead Jesus Christ.

By the end of the Divine Liturgy, his Eminence along with the rest of the flock did the litany of the holy Church of the Resurrection in Spartylas.
