Vesper of Palm Sunday in Corfu
On Saturday afternoon, March 31, 2018 at the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Vesper of Palm Sunday.
In his preaching, his Eminence underlined that our Lord enters the holy town of Jerusalem, humble and calm in His heart, sitting on a colt along with the children of the Jews who lived under the roman Occupation, cheering the “Hosanna” which means “Lord save us”. This glorifying song, as prophesied, came out of the mouths of children and the ones who still breastfeed, the ones that have pure hearts and see God as He really is. Our Lord came to this world as a liberator.
He freed the human race as a whole, from the biggest slavery, that of wear and death. In the face of the four-day Lazarus is depicted the whole fallen humanity, given to wear and death. Christ raises His friend, proving our common resurrection, our new life of the eternity.
The Saints of our Faith experienced this new life of the eternity from this world. Saint Spyridon, whose magnificent miracle is celebrated in Corfu, with the incorruptibility of his holy relic, shows to everyone that human was made to live eternally and lovingly with His Creator. Saint Spyridon enters the heart of every Corfiot and not only, leading them to the Triune God.
In his conclusion, Mr. Nektarios wished to the faithful Christians to walk on the path of repentance, humbleness and above all unselfish love, so that they also experience the immortality and eternity, through the embassies of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker.
