Vesper for Saint Vasileios in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu

On Monday afternoon, December 31, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Archieratical Vesper at the celebrating Church of Saint Vasileios in Corfu Town.

In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu analysed a hymn from the Vesper: “you studied the nature of created things.  You understood that all things will pass away; that God alone is eternal.  He is transcendent in essence, the Creator of all.” Saint Vasileios studied the knowledge of secular education and the science according to God. His zeal and love for knowledge were so great resulting in studying the nature of our world’s creatures. In this study, he understood the unstable of the beings of this universe. This instability comes form the passionate situation, love for one’s self, selfishness and alienation of humans from God, which led to their fall. As long as one lives away from the source of life, Jesus Christ, one is experiencing a clutter in their life, resulting in tragic situations.

On the contrary, the Triune God, Himself is unmovable. Our Lord remains firm in His decisions, His forgiveness, His Love, since He is Love Himself.

Referring to the present state of our world, his Eminence emphasized that only with our return to Christ and our sincere repentance, our life will become meaningful.

In conclusion, Mr. Nektarios wished everyone a good and blessed year and the time given to us by God to be a reason to return to Him, with the participation of everyone in the liturgical life of our Holy Church, which is a pre-taste of the Kingdom of Heaven.

At the end of the Vesper, his Eminence thanked the priest of the Church, Protopresbyter father Georgios Chandrinos, as well as the Protopresbyter father Georgios Bogdanos and the members of the Choir, who sung the traditional Corfiot hymns in the Vesper.
