The Vesper for Saint Spyridon in Corfu

Worship events continued in Corfu in memory of the patron saint of the island, Saint Spyridon. His Eminence the Bishop of Montenegro and the Coast, Mr. Ioannikios, from the Patriarchate of Serbia, did the Vesper of the celebration that took place on the afternoon of Saturday, December 11, 2021.

In his address, His Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands Mr. Nektarios expressed his emotion for the friendship that connects Corfu with the Serbian Patriarchate and the Serbian people, but also that the Metropolitan is now a Montenegrin from Mavrovo. great Hierarchs of the Serbian Church, the blessed Bishop Amfilohios Radovic, with whom the Bishop of Corfu himself had a bond of love from his student years. The two Churches are united by the Orthodox faith and tradition, the reverence for the saints and the joy of fellowship. Saint Spyridon proclaims the resurrection, the hope, the life of faith and this celebration brings back to everyone the hope of eternity and love.

Afterwards, His Eminence the Bishop of Montenegro Mr. Ioannikios spoke, who, after thanking the Bishop of Corfu for his love and hospitality, stood in the humiliation of St. Spyridon, who teaches us the love of God and fellow man. We see that the lives of holy people do not end with their end in this world. The saint is now doing more miracles than he has ever lived. That is why everyone is grateful to the saint and prays to him. The Serbian people in particular love both the saint and Corfu, which he has described as the island of his salvation in the First World War, when the Serbian government, Serbian refugees and soldiers took refuge on the island in exile. So the joy and gratitude to the saint and Corfu led the Metropolitan of Montenegro to this festival, to pray for both the world and Corfu.

Tomorrow, Sunday, December 12, a holy day, there will be a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with the two Bishops.
