The Truth of the Divinity of the Holy Spirit and the modern against spirit perceptions

On Sunday afternoon, December 9, 2018, at the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker, the evening preaching took place with speaker Protopresbyter father Evangelos Koutras, responsible of the anti-heretic fight of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, on the following subject: “The Truth of the Divinity of the Holy Spirit and the modern against the spirit perceptions”. In his speech, father Evangelos underlined that the Third Face of the Holy Trinity is the Holy SPirit which is congruent with the Father and the Son and the Word of God.
The Church, having the sole purpose of salvation of man and the universe constantly promotes good faith, the truth of the Gospel as a prerequisite for salvation. The Church has come across in the past, especially during the 3rd and 4th AD. century, great heresies that have altered the teaching of the Holy Spirit. These false beliefs were condamned by the 2nd Ecumenical Council in 381 in Constanople, which made it clear in the Symbol of Daith that we also believe in the Spirit, the Lord , the Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father, who together with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who spoke through the prophets. In our time there are groups that either revive ancient heresy concepts about the Holy Spirit (Jehovah’s Witnesses), or confuse His actions with actions of impoverished spirits (Pentecostals, etc.). Father Evangelos also pointed out that the Bible clearly notes two fundamental truths: a) hat the Holy Spirit is not impersonal power or energy of God (as the Chileans claim) but a certain and distinct Person; and b) that this Person it is not built but unbuilt and cohesive with the other two Faces of the Holy Trinity. As a person he commands (Acts 8:29, 10, 19, 13, 21, 11), speaks to the Churches (Rev. 2: 7), regrets (Ep.4,30), teaches and reminds (John 14, 26), places Bishops (Acts 20:38), controls sin (John 16: 8), and Christ mentions it as “another Paraclete” (John 14: 16). The Holy Spirit is therefore a Person and not an impersonal force. In conclusion, Father Evangelos stressed that the Saints are witnessing within the Church about the Holy Spirit for His being. They will reveal and continually refer all the world to the Holy Spirit. Thus, no Person of the Holy Trinity is immortal in history. With the presence and action of the Holy Spirit, both the man and the whole creation are fertilized and increased within the Church.
