THE SERVICE OF THE HOLY PASSION IN THE HOLY METROPOLIS OF CORFU

At the Metropolitan Church of the Most Holy Theotokos Spilaiotissis, on the evening of Holy Thursday, April 29, 2021, His Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, did the Service of the Holy Passion of the Lord.

Addressing the faithful, Mr. Nektarios was inspired by the hymn “And so the pen was dipped” and stressed that many criticize and condemn our Lord and not only then. And today both the ruling class and us with our sins use the cane to sign the rejection of the Godman. He offered his life for the sake of the world life and salvation. No one has greater love than His own. And over the centuries we see that no one sacrifices for the sake of their friends and brothers easily. Especially today, in the society of interest, the utilitarian lack of love is intense. But in order to love man, we need to love God and not view our relationship with Him in a utilitarian way.

Many painted the cane of our Lord’s condemnation. After last year’s Easter, in which humanity was absent from being left to Christ. Our Lord was condemned to be solitary in the temples. Today we have the opportunity, even fewer, to look at him.

He sees a humanity that stumbles. It has lost its orientation. He does not understand what the spiritual interest is and Who will give us the truth. So let us check ourselves for the attitude of all of us towards the crucified.

Mr. Nektarios closed his speech as follows: “Crucified, you were condemned and ascended to the scaffold of the cross. Do not dwell on our sins, our pettiness, our condemnation. See humanity with your own merry look. Do not turn your face away from us, because, even if we condemn you, nevertheless we look forward to you, we hope in you, we refer to you, even to the reality that leads us to its make-up “.
