The road to Salvation is through repentance
On Sunday, December 31st, 2017 his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands did the Divine Liturgy in the Church of Saint Sophia, in Corfu Town. In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu analysed the day’s part of the Gospel, noting that the beginning of the Gospel is Saint John the Holy Glorious Prophert & Forerunner.
The Forerunner prepared the way for the upcoming Messiah, Jesus Christ. Saint John baptized the people who had repented to the river Jordan with water. Our Lord baptizes the loyal Christians with fire and Holy Spirit. The Divine Fire burns every part of darkness and sin, as long as humans start searching for God’s mercy.
The road to Salvation is through repentance, during which humans realise how much they have saddened God and return to Him while changing their hearts and minds to act in a good way.
Moreover, his Eminence noted that our Holy Church invites us to live and understand all the inexplicable mysteries for the salvation of humans, like the human birth of the Divine Word, the Divine Reveal, the Crucifixion, the Bury, the Resurrection and the Ascension to the Skies.
The loyal Christian lives these mysteries with his/her participation to the liturgical life of the Church and the spiritual struggles. In his closing, Mr. Nektarios invited all the loyal Christians to live with God’s Grace and blessing, while having a love relationship with our Lord.
