The Official Celebration of the Holy Three Hierarchs in Corfu
The Three Holy Hierarchs were officially celebrated with a Divine Liturgy in the Metropolitan Church of the Virgin Mary the Spilaiotissa. His Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy, while present were the Regional Director of Education Mr. Petros Angelopoulos, the head of the Secondary Education, Mr. Theodoros Athinaios, teachers and students of the First High School of Corfu.
The speech of the day was by Mr. Konstantinos Mourmouris, philologist, who pointed out the importance of the Holy Three Hierarchs to the education, along with the attempts to erase the presence of the Church in the local communities, the original life of the Greeks, the family values, the manual professions, the duties along with the rights, the respect to the traditional values, while emphasising the need to awaken and imitate the morals of the Holy Three Hierarchs.
The Bishop of Corfu, having congratulated the children and the professors for their excellent presence during the Divine Liturgy and their participation to the service of the Divine Communion, thanked the presenter for his frankness of speech, while underlining that in our times, attempts to change our homeland are constantly made and thus, we need to enhance our faith to Christ and homeland, in order to inherit the land which gave birth to philosophy, religion, education and the Holy Three Hierarchs.
