The new Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontian Islands assumed her duties
On Sunday afternoon, August 25, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Blessing Service and the swearing-in ceremony of the new Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontian Islands, Ms. Meropi Ydraiou, along with the new members of the City Government, in the Volksgarden.
In his greeting, His Eminence pointed out that all the deacons in God and in the people come from the Lord. That is why in our Church when we pray, we also mention in favor of our nobles, because those who decorate the people, decorate Jesus Christ Himself. As the Holy Gospel informs us, the lords of the old times were humiliating people because they had not experienced the presence of the true God in their hearts. The same thing does not happen to us, the Lord assures us: “He wants them first, He is the ultimate and the ultimate deacon.” This ministry of the people is therefore a cross and upward course, especially if one takes into account the many problems facing the island of Corfu.
Finally, Mr. Nektarios deeply wished both Ms. Ydraiou and the members of the new city council good luck in the difficult task undertaken and the grace of our Christ to overshadow them, through the embassies of St. Spyridon, of St. Theodora the Empress. and all the saints.
