The new City Government of Paxoi assumed its duties
On Friday, August 30, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the blessing service and the swearing-in ceremony of the new City Government of Paxoi, with its new Mayor, Mr. Spyridon Vlachopoulos and the new members of the local Council.
In his greeting, Mr. Nektarios pointed out that not only human wisdom is needed, but more importantly, the wisdom from above, as emphasized by Apostle Paul. The people whom the people choose are blessed by God Himself. Nothing in our lives can be done without the blessing of Christ. On the other hand, the elected ones in power who take up various offices should not forget that they have been called upon to serve people. The Lord invites us: “The one wants to be first, he/she is the ultimate and the ultimate deacon.”
In closing, His Eminence deeply wished Mr. Vlahopoulos and the members of the City Council a good, blessed and fruitful term, with the assurance that the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands will help in every project.
