THE FIRST ONLINE MEETING OF THE PARENTS’ SCHOOL IN CORFU

On the afternoon of Sunday, February 14, 2021, in the framework of the operation of the Parents’ School of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, Paxos & Diapontian Islands, the first online meeting for 2021 was held with the participation of young couples and parents, mainly from Corfu, but also those who Internet opportunity from other parts of Greece.

The official guest and speaker was Fr. George Milkas, theologian, educator, clergyman of the Holy Metropolis of Neapolis and Stavroupolis, pastor of the Church of Agios Athanasios and St. Evangelistria of Evosmos, Thessaloniki. Fr. George, having extensive experience in matters concerning the family and young people, developed the topic “Steps to Holiness at the side of our children.”

His speech had six axes, six important points that parents should pay attention to as they educate their children in Christ. These points are outlined as follows:

a. The Church of the whole family, especially on Sunday b. parents to be an example to children c. Love and Unity between the couple d. the obedience of the children to the parents, without abolishing their freedom e. the help of the parents to the children to discern the will of God f. the joy and the thankful way of life in the family they bring the sunshine, the Holiness.

After the presentation, His Eminence the Bishop of Corfu Mr. Nektarios spoke, thanking Fr. Georgios Milkas and all the participants and pointing out that without God we can do nothing, since God is our omnipresence and hope. Joy and holiness come into the family when there is Love and we make proper use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

After this informative speech of Fr. Georgios and the intervention of His Excellency followed a constructive dialogue, which came to the conclusion that to say in both the easy and the difficult “Glory to God” and to mean it.

Two more online meetings will follow, on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 8 pm, with a speaker Fr. Antonios Kalligeris, director of the Family Pastoral Office at the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, and on Sunday 11

April 11, 2021 at 8 pm, with a speaker Fr. Charalambos Papadopoulos, Fr. Livios, a well-known author, clergyman of the Holy Metropolis of Gortyn and Arcadia in Crete.
