The feast of Saint Paraskevi in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Thursday, July 25, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the panegyrical Vesper in the Holy CHurch of Saint Paraskevi in Bogdanatika, Paxoi and on Friday, July 26, 2019, his Eminence did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating Church of Saint Paraskevi Ozias, in Paxoi.
In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu pointed out that Saint Paraskevi was a loyal Christian. She was born to devout parents on Friday. This day is inextricably linked to the Passion and the Cross death of our Lord. The Martyr of Love loved Jesus the soul of Jesus Christ so much that she sacrificed her life for Him. She Believed and experienced the Passion and Resurrection of Christ.
In addition, His Eminence stressed that St. Paraskevi is the meteorite that was hit by various waves. The first wave was that of Roman idolatry and atheism. The second wave was the material wealth inherited by the Saint from her parents, but that did not stand in the way of separating her from Christ. And the third wave that hit her hard was her martyrdom. However, despite the torture she suffered, Saint Paraskevi having a valiant mind boldly confessed to her Lord and God.In closing, Mr. Nektarios called on the faithful to imitate the priesthood of St. Paraskevi and make a decision in their lives to follow the Lord of Glory in times of distress. Saint Cosmas the Aetolus prophesied that there would come a time when “the land will live with a thread”. This thread is the internet, where its reckless use has destroyed human relationships, making the modern human a slave.
