The celebration of the Holy Spirit in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Monday, June 17, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Episcopal Divine Liturgy in the celebrating church of the Holy Trinity in Garitsa.
In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu analyzed the prophecy of Ezekiel, which is read on Pentecost Sunday, according to which the Lord will bring out from every corner of the earth those people who love God. And He will cleanse them, with pure water, from every sin, but also from every idolatry. This event was fulfilled with the epidemic of the Holy Spirit on the heads of the Apostles. One characteristic of the Holy Spirit is the unity of Christians. The Paraclete establishes and preserves our Church, in which we all remember and praise the Holy Trinity, “in one mouth and one heart”. The Paraclete also bestows the good on the believer, the man who lives by Christ and struggles daily with his passions in order to carry out the Divine will in his life.
In addition, His Eminence emphasized the need for unity of our people, especially in this difficult time we are living in, where foreign and domestic centers are always trying to divide, demilitarize and neglect us. Nowhere else can we find unity except our Church.Concluding, Mr. Nektarios wished that the Triune God would give the good distortion to all Christians so that they would walk in the path of repentance and salvation.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence awarded Mr. Lazaros Papaioannou, Vice President of the German-Greek Friendship Foundation and a great benefactor of HM. Corfu, the honorable celebration of the local Church, the Golden Cross of Saint and Miracle Spyridon. The award was read by Mr. Constantinos Thymis, Secretary of the IM. Corfu. Mr. Papaioannou has provided hospital equipment to the IXP. “Platytera”, as well as a generator of the radio station of the local church, “Agios Spyridon”
