The Celebration of the Holy Great Martyr Dimitrios the Myrrh-streamer in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Thursday, October 26th, 2017, his Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, mr. Nektarios made the Divine Liturgy in the Monastery of Saint Dimitrios in the village of Agioi Douloi in the North side of Corfu.
In his preaching, the Bishop emphasised that Saint Dimitrios had discernment. He was able to distinguish which road leads to wastage and which to salvation. Therefore, he did not hesitate in sacrificying his life for Jesus.
Moreover, the Bishop underlined the fact that the Church of Jesu is again in persecution, just like the time of Saint Dimitrios. Saint Dimitrios’s love and faith for Christ remind us to fight and testify as true Christians in the modern world. His blood works as a constant reminder and keeps us awakened giving us the certainty of after death life.
Finally, mr. Nektarios invited all the faithful Christians to imitate Saint Dimitrios and his fighting spitit for Christ. He thanked the female fraternity of the Monastery for their spiritual work which just like all Monasteries functions as a spiritual oasis in the dessert of the modern society.
