The Bishop of Corfu in Othonoi

On Sunday, July 22, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Church of Holy Trinity in Othonoi.

In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu, having analysed the Gospel’s reading of the day, the miracle of feeding five thousands by Jesus Christ, analysed three elements.

Firstly, our Lord does never abandon. Many times, he allows trials to happen, but when watching our patience and strength, he comforts every person based on hisher trial, translated either as hunger, sickness, or financial difficulty. Secondly, Christ with his miracle praises the meaning of faith.

When asking His Disciples to give food to people, they reply that it was not enough, then they distrust Him. Then, He blesses food and they multiply. At this point lies distrust especially of the modern human, as far as the management of the materials given by God. Lastly, our Lord desires us to appreciate all the goods given.

For this reason, He ordered His Disciples not to throw away the leftover. Instead, today, we experience the results of a society of overconsumption, with tons of rubbish having filled the roads of Corfu for many months, threathening people’s health.

Moreover, Mr. Nektarios stressed that in our days, the greek society suffers from excessive waste. THe afforementioned seem to be obstacles, we seek the change from the wordly people, in order to lead and feed us. On the other hand, the holy chanter advises us to not believe the ones in power because they cannot offer salvation.

In his closing, his Eminence, having expressed his great joy for communicating with the residents of Othonoi, asked the faithful to keep their place as a whole against anyone who aims to alter the holy soils of the mother homeland, the ones filled with blood of the martyrs and heroes of our Nation.
