Starting of the afternoon preachings in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Sunday afternoon, November 4, 2018 at the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker the afternoon preachings for the missionary year 2018-2019 began. Main speaker was Protopresbyter father Evangelos Koutras, responsible of the anti-heretic fight of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu.
In his speech, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios pointed out the dangers coming from “religions” and other many heresies, either from east or west. The wrong theories of these groups poison the hearts of the Orthodox people and lead them to loss, if not repenting first. It is clear that out of the Orthodox Church, there is no salvation. Lies cannot become truth under any form. As Saint Paul assures us that Church is the only pillar of truth. The Church of Greece for many decades struggles and fights against heresies and confesses faith, in order the loyal Christians to meet Christ as He is and protect themselves by the ones who are in darkness.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios having wished courage to father Evangelos, asked from the faithful ones to inform themselves and become more and more interested on issues of faith. Considering the importance of such issues, the local Church organizes various events in order to make its children communicators of the truth.
Then, father Evangelos talked, who thanked his Eminence and then developed the following subject: “The message of the Orthodox faith and life, against confusion, panreligion and heresies”. At the dawn of the new century, people live in a whirpool of re-framing the meaning of their lives. The existential problems and the spiritual crisis they go through,have created a huge gap and confusion of their destination and meaning of their lives. Never before until now had the modern human met such an extended crisis of meaning. Of this spiritual crisis and confusion , panreligion and heresies take advantage, trying with their “beliefs” and their illusions to cover this gap. The Orthodox Church, with the Truth of God-human Christ and faith and life, expressions of Saints’ life, comes with honesty, originality and love to talk to the modern human, dealing with panreligion and heresies, giving real life meaning and replacing the illusions, counterfeiting and confusion with the living truth, that is, Christ.
In his closing, father Evangelos underlined that the Truth of Lord changes humans and heals them from their selfishness in order to help them understand Truth, their destination and their salvation.
