Saints show us the correct way to the path of our lives
On Wednesday, October 25th, 2017, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands mr. Nektarios made the festive Vesper in the Church of Saint Dimitrios, in the village of Ano Pavliana.
In his preaching, his Eminence talked about the life of the Holy Great Martyr Dimitrios the Myrrh-streamer. He lived in a time period where people were made to worship the emperor as their God. Otherwise they were subjected to death penalty. There were the sensuality, materialism and idolatry. Although Saint Dimitrios had a great position in the army, he believed in Jesus Christ, taught Faith to the young people and sacrificed himself for the love of Christ. Our local Church is soaked with the blood of its Martyrs. They show us the correct way to the path of our lives in order to be as images of God.
Moreover, the Bishop pointed out that modern times look a lot alike the one of Saint Dimitrios. Unfortunately, today the Church of Christ is again in persecution. New ways of living are established and our Faith is altered along with the notion of Family, our History and Traditon. Christians are considered to be conspirators and extremists.
In the end, the Bishop of Corfu, mr. Nektarios invited all the faithful Christians to have fighting spirit and just like Saint Dimitrios, take courage from the Divine Services. God will not leave our Homeland, Greece, to be destroyed.
