Saint Varvaros’s celebration in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Wednesday, May, 15, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating Church of Saint Varvaros in Potamos.
In his speech to the faithful, the Bishop of Corfu briefly analyzed the Gospel of the day, the idolatry between the Lord and the believers in the Jews. Christ asked them the question whether they believe that He is the expected Messiah, the Son of God. For their part, they replied in the affirmative.
So today, his Eminence continued, we are called by our own faith to confess all the days of our lives that Christ truly has risen from the dead. We need the Resurrection of the Lord first of all to embrace it and experience it, not just to reproduce it verbally. The Resurrection of the Savior Christ was experienced by the Saints of our faith, giving them their spiritual struggle to unite with the Risen Lord, whom they also loved, returning the love of the Triune God to His creature.
Saint Varvaros, though he had previously lived a life of sin, nevertheless his own Lord appeared and assured him that He is his Father, his brother and his friend, so that Saint can follow Him for the rest of his life. With the blessing that he has gained, he has done many miracles, leading people to the true God.
In conclusion, Mr. Nektarios expressed his great joy and emotion to the students and teachers of the Primary School of Potamos who participated in the Divine Liturgy, and wished the Ascension Light, which was drawn from the Life-giving Tomb, to clean our spiritual and physical senses , so that we may be forerunned by the present world the unlearned joy of the Resurrection and the Kingdom of Heaven, through the embassies of all Saints.
