Press Release about the Catechetical Gathering on November 23rd,2021

On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 23, 2021, in the context of the training of catechists, clergy and laity, the youth office of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, Paxos & Diapontia Islands, conducted the first meeting, for the missionary year 2021-2022, via the zoom platform.

Introductory speech was given by Fr. George Bogdanos, Director of the Youth Office of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, Paxos & Diapontian Islands, thanking his Eminence Nectarios for the paternal love for all and pointing out the need for catechism in difficult times, full of doubt and insecurity.

Then his Eminence, the Bishop Mr. Nektarios expressed his satisfaction that even with the new media, he is present in the large catechism and that our Holy Diocese has great executives who extend their hand on the plow to plow the “George of the Lord”. He also expressed his anguish for the “Re-evangelization” of the people, focusing on the fact that many today practice religion without being aware of what is being done, without knowing what the Church really means, belonging to a parish. That is why we must catechize people, especially young people, functionally and spiritually, focusing their attention on the mysteries of salvation.

At this point he stressed that the children are thirsty for the truth, submitting a declaration of young Serbs who years ago sought trust and truth from the Church, after being disappointed by many. Motivated by this proclamation, he pointed out the need to present the truth, the word of God to people exactly as it is. To offer, not the God of our measures who serves our needs, but “God as it is” according to the book of Saint Sophronius of Essex and then this God of Love and Truth will bear fruit in the souls of people, masters of the young which are artificial and submissive.

In the end, he thanked all the catechists, saying that they are in his daily prayer and urged them to have patience, perseverance, conscience and fear of God.

Then His Eminence answered questions and inquiries of clergy and laity and all pointed out the need for these meetings to continue.
