Our Church awakens our national conscience
On Saturday afternoon, March 23,2019, the Youth Office of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, organised an event for the Theometorical feast of the Annunciation of the Holy Theotokos and the National Day of the March 25th 1821. In the event paticipated children from the parished of the Holy Metropolis, while there were also multimedia presentantions by the Youth Office and members of the Ecclesiastical Music School of the local church “Saint Arsenions” and children of the Kindergarten School “ELENI BELLOU” of the Holy Metropolis.
The children were enthusiastic about the program they presented, which shows the lively presence of the Church in the new generation, but at the same time the existence of struggle in order to preserve the historical memory, as well as the authentic tradition of Christianity and Hellenism which in our times is challenged on many fronts, but as long as the local Church continues to give its message as the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, emphasized in his greeting, who was deeply moved and excited, attended the event.
Specifically, the Eminence emphasized that the greatest response to all these ethnologists, counterfeiters and revisers of our glorious history is the powerful pulse and spirit of supplication emanating from the children of the parishes of our local Church. With the laborious, yet tiring efforts of both the priests and the parishioners, the young generation awakens and is baptized with the tribulations of Orthodox faith and love for Greece. There is no greater joy and satisfaction for a spiritual father, such as the Bishop, to see his children progress intellectually, giving the message of resistance, to all this betrayal and continuous effort to change our society.
The only factor that awakens our national consciousness is the Church. For this reason, it has been targeted by various off-center domestic and foreign powers.
In closing, Mr. Nektarios assured that the local Church will never stop fighthing like our glorious ancestors did, for the faith of Christ the holy freedom of our homeland against the enemies coming both from the East and the West.
