Miracles are the relevation of God’s character to this world

Bishop of Kaisariani, Mr. Daniel: “Miracles are the relevation of God’s character to this world.”

On Saturday afternoon, August 11, 2018 in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker, a Panegyrical Episcopal Vesper took place on the remembering of him saving the island from the Ottomans, in 1716.

The following bishops were present: of Kaisariani, Vyron and Ymittos, Mr. Daniel, of Serres and Nigriti and the local one, of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios. In his speech, Mr. Daniel having thanked Mr. Nektarios for the gentle invitation of the local Church, underlined three elements that make our Faith’s Saints, friends of God according to the teaching of Saint Symeon, the new Theologian.

The first one is the faith, or the trust of the Saints to the foresight of the Heavenly Father.

The second one has to do with the holiness of the life and thus, with obeying to the Divine Will and getting rid of the Individual one. Besides, this is proved by our Lord, Who stresses out that the ones who follow His orders, love Him really.

The last element that makes Saints, friends of God is the miracle. The miracle is nothing more than the revelation of God’s character to this world.

Thus, a Saint becomes a preacher of the Triune God. Moreover, the Bishop of Kaisariani underlined that Saint Spyridon had all the aforementioned characteristics, faith, holiness of his life and the gift of doing miracles.

One of the countless miracles is celebrated today in the island of Corfu, its saving of the Ottoman attack in 1716. Saint Spyridon, like another Moses, saved his people from slavery. In his closing, Mr. Daniel invited the faithful to imitate Saint Spyridon’s life, in order for them to become with the aid of the Divine Grace, genuine friends of God.
