Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “Faith in Christ and love for our country have kept our Nation alive throughout the centuries.”

On Tuesday, January 30, 2018 his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Matin and the Divine Liturgy in the Metropolitan Church of Holy Virgin the Spilaiotissa. In the Divine Liturgy participated the Regional Director of Education of the Ionian Islands, Mr. Kostas Gkousis, the students of the Kindergarten and Elementary School of Corfu’s Old Town, with their teachers, representatives of the 4th, 6th and 7th Junior High Schools of Corfu accompanied by their teachers, along with other members of the educational Community of Corfu.

In his preaching, his Eminence stated his great joy and emotion for the attendance of students in the Divine Liturgy and praised the courage showed by the teachers and professors who ignored the imposition of the holiday on the part of the Ministry for the day of the Three Hierarch’s feast which is celebrated and established since the 11th century.

Moreover, Mr. Nektarios based on the Gospel Reading of the Day, asked from the children to transmute the light of our Christ to other people and keep in their hearts the love for our Greece, our history and our culture. The faith to Christ and the love for our country have kept our Nation alive, throughout the centuries.

In his closing, the Bishop of Corfu wished to the students and teachers to be enlightened by our Lord through the prayers of our Saints.

Mr. Konstantinos Moumouris, professor in the 1st High School of Corfu talked about the Three Hierarchs and their contribution to the Education. He mentioned the combats to Greek Education during the past few years.

It should be mentioned that many children participated in the Holy Communion.
