Degree Awards to the students of the Ecclesiastical Music School of Holy Metropolis of Corfu

In Tuesday’s afternoon, October, 24th, 2017 the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands organised a special event for the degree awards of the Ecclesiastical Music School “O Agios Arsenios” in the Spiritual Centre.

The graduates of the School organised a concert with hymns from our Liturgical Tradition.

During the concert, the director of the School, Archimandrite father Ioustinos Konstantas, Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis, talked about the job of Holy Chanter is to connect the Priests with the faithful Christians. He is responsible to make the faithful Christians understand and share the meaning of our Faith.

Following, the art director of the School, mr. Ioannis Schoris continued stressing out that the art of chanting is not only an art but a real profession. The chanter is a mass-priest too in our Church. Therefore, the chanters should not try to dominate the others.

Then, his Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, mr. Nektarios thanked the students and the teachers for their toil, while pointing out the importance of the correct understanding and rendering of our Orthodox Faith through the hymnology in the Church. The hymns are prayers and thus, they have to be chanted with simplicity and humbleness.

Finally, we should mention that the Ecclesiastical Music School of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu works fof eighth consecutive year, with 88 students in total. Main responsible for the Ecclesiastical Music School is the Chancellor, Archimandrite Father Ioustinos Konstantas. The art director is mr. Ioannis Schoris and teachers are mr. Nikolaos Makropoulos, mr. Georgios Ladovrexis, the diacon Nektarios Bokos and mr. Georgios Lavranos.
