Christmas event of young people in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu
On Sunday afternoon, December 23, 2018, in the amphitheater of the Chronically Suffering People’s Foundation “the Platytera”, the Christmas feast of the young people of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu organized by the Youth Office of the local Church was held. The feast had as its central theme: “Christmas Stories”. The event was presented by Eleni Rizou.
In the event participated the following: children from the Kindergarten School of the Holy Metropolis “Eleni Bellou”, young people from the parishes of Saint Spyridon Kotselas, Saint Three Martyrs, Virgin Mary the Odigitria in Gastouri, Virgin Mary of Phaneromeni in Stereotes, Virgin Mary Eleoussa and Saint Varvaros of Potamos, Virgin Mary the Odigitria in Alepoy and Virgin Mary of Eleoussa in Kynopiastes with the Children’s Choir “Galilaia” under the direction of Mrs. Dimitra Kalogeropoulou, who presented with their own distinctive way messages about Christmas, poems, theatrical plays and media. There was also a multimedia presentation by the Youth Office of the Holy Metropolis called “Christmas stories”.
The Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and DIapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, closing the event, enthusiastic, congratulated children and everyone participated, while underlining that we are all invited to be like young children, in their innocence, selfishness and forgiveness, in a world, that has marginalized God and Church is under obvious was, by dark powers targeting to “erase” Orthodoxy from Greek hearts. The young teams and the catechetical schools of our Holy Metropolis is an answer that the local Church resists all these evil plans. The priests and their associates both in the city of Corfu and in the villages give daily evidence of Christ, working in the vineyard of the Lord for the spiritual progress of the young people. There is no greater joy and satisfaction for a spiritual father than to see his children spiritually.
In closing, Mr. Nektarios thanked first and above all the children, the heads of the catechism groups, the Youth Office of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu and all those who contributed to this event, encouraging not to forget that Christmas without Christ does not make sense and to thicken with their participation the Christmas Divine Liturgy, while contributing with love to the work of the local Church.
