CELEBRATING THE 25TH OF MARCH IN CORFU, BISHOP OF CORFU, NEKTARIOS

The double religious and national celebration of March 25th was celebrated at the Metropolitan Church of Virgin Mary of Corfu. The Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontian Islands, Nektarios, performed the Divine Liturgy in camera. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, commemorative engagements were held at Heron and the statue of Kapodistrias, in the presence of the Mayor of Central Corfu, Mr. Meropi Hydraiou, who laid wreaths and flowers in memory of the heroes of 1821 and President of the Municipal Council  Mr Dimitrios Metallinos.

Addressing the fellow people and those who watched the Divine Liturgy through television, radio and the Internet, Mr. Nektarios emphasized that nothing can separate us from Christ’s love, as long as we have faith and love. But while Christ has set us free from sin, corruption, and death, we still see that again, especially in our time, we have returned to the state of decline, forgetting God and fellow man. The honor of today is the removal from the neighborhood, not just our enclosure in our homes. It is a kind of hell the near deprivation. We cannot enjoy the joy of freedom God has bestowed upon us. However, our Church continues to celebrate and celebrate the Annunciation and prays because Christ will not leave us. Although we were trapped in greed, in the same will and isolated, we would not be defeated.

Mr Nektarios pointed out that there is no provision in the decision to isolate people from praying for people in churches, even though they are expected to bring their pets out. But the Church is life and joy. And we should not be afraid to go through the temple, do our prayer, and seek communion with God. And that will be the struggle of the Church next time!

The Bishop of Corfu later visited the church of Saint Spyridon and prayed for help from God and Saint to cure the infectious disease.
