Celebrating Saint Marina in the Holy Metropolis of Corfu

On Tuesday, July 17, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating Church of Saint Marina in Benitses.

In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu analysed initially the Epistle’s reading of the day, underlining that there are no distinctions in Christ’s Church.

There is no Jewish and National, there is no male and female, but everyone is experiencing freedom through Christ and everyone is called to communicate with love with the Triune God. Saint MArina the Great Martyr, albeit being a woman, had a brave spirit and fought till the end against sin and temptation.

She was originally from an idololatric family of Antioch. Nevertheless, a nanny instilled in her tender soul the love for the real God. Her faith in Bridegroom Chirst was so great and genuine that she confessed Him with boldness and bravery to the ones in power.

Satan appeared to her in the prison where she was held in order to intimidate her. Saint Marina, however, was armed with more faith and crushed devil.

Referring to the present era, his Eminence emphasized that the blood of Saint Marina has been present for so many centuries and invites us to awaken from the spiritual lethargy we have come to.

Today’s celebration calls us on spiritual resistance to what the ones in power are legislating in order to change the Greek society and on families to take initiatives and place Christ in the hearts of young people. For its part, the administration of the Church testifies and struggles on a daily basis in order to preserve the Orthodox faith, the Greek family, and the territorial integrity of our most-beloved homeland, which is in the process of being sold out by the ones in power, in good cooperation with foreign centres

Greece, no matter how small, you see, is the biggest obstacle in completing the plan of the New Order of Things.

In his conclusion, Mr. Nektarios urged the faithful to intensify their prayers, giving daily testimomies of Christ, while opposing to the orders of the ones in power.
