Celebrating Saint Eleftherios in Corfu

His Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu and Paxos Mr. Nektarios today during the feast of Saint Eleftherios and spoke at the historic church of Saint Eleftherios in the center of the old town in Corfu. The church of Saint Eleftherios during the Second World War was bombed and completely destroyed, but the care of the then venerable pastor Fr. Georgios Savvanis rebuilt it from the ground up in the difficult adversities of the German occupation.

During the solemn service, the choir of the church under the direction of Mr. Ioannis Karydis chanted majestically. His Excellency in his speech, referred to the saint of the Saint in his life, in fact he did not emphasize the fact that his mother brought him to the bishop of Rome Invincible and when the bishop saw his qualifications his seriousness the morality and maturity in the face of Eleftherios decided to ordain him both deacon and elder and Bishop of Illyricum. His Eminence explained to the congregation the meaning of the child elder mentioned by the philokalian secretariat. Today in our time, mature young people are missing and people who love like Eleftherios God are generally absent and reach the point of sacrifice! Disciple Paul in his letter to ap. Timothy writes to him through the prisons of Rome not to aggravate the martyrdom, that is why Saint Eleftherios, who is spiritually brought up in Rome, heard Paul’s voice whispering inside and strengthening him in the martyrdom. The witnesses gladly offered the sacrifice for the love of God.

Our age, an age of interest, does not give priority to the love of God and to the faith of Him. But in the life of pleasures, but without the sacrifice of Him we will continue to be surrendered to the worldly mind so that we do not live the joy of freedom that He Himself freed us from the dynasty of the devil, and those who live in the church of Christ let us do not be influenced by the threats of modern persecution that appear under various texts within our church. In the end he wished the celebrants. In the end he wished a Merry Christmas!
