Bishop of Corfu Mr. Nektarios: The natural place of praying is the Divine Liturgy

The parish of Saint Varvara in Sinies in northern Corfu was visited on the morning of Sunday, May 24, 2020 by His Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and the Diapontian Islands Mr. Nektarios. There was a divine Liturgy and the memorial service of a young family man. The Mayor of North Corfu, Mr. George Macheimaris, also participated in the divine Liturgy.

Addressing the faithful, Mr. Nektarios stressed that we all expect the Resurrection of the dead, we will receive the spiritual body, like our Christ, we will be recognizable, but we will not experience decay and death. Until then, we are left with the prayer for those who have fallen asleep. And the natural place of prayer is the divine liturgy, it is the temple, it is the life of the Church. In the massification of modern reality we oppose the preservation of the human face in the Church. We preserve our talents, we communicate face to face, we fight against our passions and evils.
Mr. Nektarios also stressed, on the occasion of the evangelical reading of the treatment of the congenitally blind, the phenomenon of hypocrisy which characterized the leaders of the time where he acted, but also the current reality. Christ healed the blind man by recreating him, and showed that faith in Him begets the miracle of man’s renewal. That is why we need to trust God nowadays and transcend the spirit of absolute surrender to rationalism and human achievement.
