Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “We should confess Christ with boldness”

On Sunday, June 2, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Church of Lord’s Ascension in Volos.

In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu analysed the Gospel’s reading of the day, the healing of the Blind man by Jesus Christ. The element worth noticing is that Lord, the second Person of the Holy Trinity is the One doing the work of creation. With His Incarnation, He comes to this world and rebuilds it. Triune God made humans by soil while giving them the Breath of Life. This work of creation goes on. We see Jesus Christ making clay and healing the blind man. Τhis blessing was not accepted by a part of Jewish people, who were  jealous and hateful towards Christ, because He healed the blind man on a Saturday.

This kind of thinking and lifestyle belongs to those who only care about following the laws instead of caring for their fellow people. Also, the parents of the blind man doubted Lord and His powers used for their son. Unfortunately, today, we deny Christ and His blessings, by fearing not to lose our position in society or our work. We want people to like us and we do not care about God liking us. That’s our tragedy.

Another point worth noticing is the blind man’s faith. Christ asks him if he believes and he says yes. No actual alive relationship with God can exist if there is no Faith, translated to complete trust to Him.

In his closing, His Eminence asked the faithful Christians to believe to the Resurrected Christ and confess Him with boldness.
