BISHOP OF CORFU, MR. NEKTARIOS: “WE SHOULD BEAR THE HUMILITY IN OUR LIFE”

In the holy Church of Saint Spyridon of the Cretans in South Corfu, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy on the morning of Sunday of the Publican and Pharisee of February 21, 2021.

Addressing the faithful, Mr. Nektarios asked everyone not to live the Trinity cosmically, based on the Dionysian customs of the ancients, but with a spiritual struggle. To learn from the parable of the tax collector and the Pharisee to proceed with the choice of self-humiliation, in order to endure the humiliations that our life and mistakes will bring us.

Modern man has overlooked everything. Those who manage the values of our lives have removed from people’s education love, humility, respect for the family, spiritual values. But we do not live only on our bread, but on the word of God. Christ asks us to imitate the tax collector, to feel that we are sinners, to be humbled before God. The customs “God forbid” is the key. The Pharisee asks for his justification. We modern people are like him, because we want to go out without any other meaning, without God. And we pay the price.

Mr. Nektarios thanked the faithful who, with respect to the sanitary measures, have not stopped going to church and communing.
