BISHOP OF CORFU, MR. NEKTARIOS: WE PLACE OUR HOPE TO THE LIVING GOD
On the morning of Wednesday, February 10, 2021, His Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, did the Divine Liturgy at the celebrating Church of Saint Charalambos in Paxos.
Addressing the faithful, Mr. Nektarios stressed that Saint Charalambos was supported in his life by the hope of eternity and faith. She strengthened him to endure the torment. And he continues to mediate for us, so that people get rid of the plague, as he did in our tradition. Saint Charalambos shows us what it means not to fear death, but to hope in God alive. Fear has always existed in human life. God gave it to protect us from temptation and the devil. Death is for all people once Death, however, for the faithful is not a cause of despair, but an expectation of the presence of God and eternity.
Saint Charalambos became a pillar and foundation of the Church. When we have the inner strength of faith, then we will endure and resist those minds that want to erase tradition from our lives. Saint Charalambos protects our place. The Paxos endure, despite the global pandemic, thanks to the cry of the prayer of Saint Charalambos. Let us ask for that too. May the grace of God visit us and let us be devoted to God and our fellow man. Let us close our ears to the cries of fear and terror and with love and hope to move forward.
