BISHOP OF CORFU, MR. NEKTARIOS: “VIRGIN MARY IS A SPIRITUAL MAGNET”
On the morning of August 15, His Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, did the Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Church of the Most Holy Theotokos Spilaiotissis in Corfu.
In his sermon to the faithful, Mr. Nektarios was motivated by the evangelical reading of the day and by Christ’s response to the woman’s exclamation “Blessed is the womb that clings to you and your breasts,” that blessed is he who hears his word God and keeps it. The word of Christ is true and eternal and contradicts the questionable human reasons, which are often reasons of evil, irony, cruelty and make us doubt what is true and what is false, just as it happens in our time. Today human reason considers fellow human beings dangerous and this leads us to a mental and social distance.
The word of Christ is a word of salvation, it is a revelatory word, because it leads us to the relationship with God. Otherwise we lead to chaos and drowning. Without God we are led to submission, to becoming people of the masks and not of the authenticity of the person.
The face of the Virgin Mary shows us that when man listens to God and obeys, as she did, then we are saved from every fear and every agony. The Virgin Mary is a spiritual magnet and leads us with motherly words to the truth and to the observance of God’s will, making us not to be afraid, but to be saved through the relationship with our God!
