Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “The modern descendants of Herodes work to make Greece spiritually neutral.”

On Wednesday, December 26, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Church of Virgin Mary the Eleoussa in Potamos.

In his speech, his Eminence, the Bishop using as a basis the Epistle’s reading of the day, underlined that the one who blesses us is the Lord, Jesus Christ and we are the blessed ones, who with our Baptism have taken the Divine gifts. Saint Paul mentions that “Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family.”  The Lord is the God’s Only Son and we are, by Grace, children of God Father.  As a result, both the Lord and we have the same Father.

Moreover, Saint Paul clarifies the reason behind Son’s Incarnation, that is the abolition of death and sin. Death is nothing else but the result of the misuse of the freedom of the first humans, which led to their exit from Paradise and their entering into the life of wear, pain and death. With his Crucifixion and His death, Christ defeated the ultimate enemy of the human race, Death.

Additionally, Mr. Nektarios noted that in every era of the human history, there are the descendants of Herodes, who persecute and fight the Saviour of the world. This war against the Lord and His Church has intensified recently in our homeland. Modern descendants of Herodes work to make Greece spiritually neutral. This in a sense means violent eradication from the hearts of the Orthodox Greeks of the faith to the Triune God, of this faith that has kept them alive in the course of so many centuries. Other groups of modern descendants of Herodes are the so-called right-wing movements, such as the feminists that promote abortion, which are a clear murder of unprotected children. And unfortunately, in our country abortion is increasing each year with geometric progress, intensifying the already terrible demographic problem that we are experiencing and tends to eliminate us as a nation.

In his closing, the Bishop of Corfu invited the faithful to wonder, what God has offered to us and what we, in our part, are redeeming with our daily attitude.
