BISHOP OF CORFU, Mr. Nektarios: “The Divine Eucharist requires a new self”
On the morning of Holy Thursday, April 29, 2021, His Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, did the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Shrine of St. Spyridon.
Addressing the faithful, Mr. Nektarios stressed that on this day the Church reminds us especially the need to participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion. “Become partakers of my body and my blood,” our Lord tells us. But in order to participate in eternal life and not in sin or condemnation, we need to have the communion of the Holy Spirit, to have the inner man renewed. Renovation comes through repentance, through inner search in our hearts. We are called to partake of the grace of God himself. Divine Eucharist is not for the good of time, as some say. It is for the whole year, for our whole life. This is the Orthodox tradition and the life of the Church. So let us control ourselves and participate in the mystery in the innocence of the heart.
