BISHOP OF CORFU, MR. NEKTARIOS: PROMISES FROM THE WEST ARE VAIN, WE SHOULD ONLY RELY ON OUR FAITH

The Service of the Akathist Hymn at the Holy Church of Saint and Miracle Worker Spyridon was performed on the evening of Friday, July 24, 2020 by His Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands Mr. Nektarios, as a prayer and spiritual movement by the barbaric people who respect neither sanctity nor culture.

Mr. Nektarios, in a crowded church of believers who participated in the procession chanting “I fight for you”, stressed that “we have turned away from the true God” and we are humbled for our sins. But in such trials, which are a second fall of Constantinople, as then, so today faith has taken root and will take root in the hearts of our people. Our fathers fought not for interests, but for the faith, the homeland, freedom. This ethos was transmitted to us and will remain intact as long as the Church has a Christian faith. Romanism will not be defeated.

In our time, when technology triumphs, science without God, civilization without God, offspring of the same western spirit which refused to defend Christian Constantinople from the onslaught of the barbaric people, despite making promises, after the fall of 1204. Westerners today repeat the same tactic. They want us submissive and integrated into culture, but without defending sanctity against barbarism. The barbarians then and today have provoked and are provoking. Then we fought with our own strength and our faith. We may have been defeated, but we did not assimilate or submit. The same today. We know that we are alone as a human being, but again our hope is in God, in the Advocate General, the Virgin Mary who in Corfu is called Dimosiana, because she enters in front of the municipality, the people and takes to the streets to strengthen her world. , but also Saint Spyridon, the patron not only of Corfu but of all Orthodoxy. The Virgin Mary and the Saint will not leave unanswered the prayer of the people.

Mr. Nektarios called for an alarm of prayer and repentance, while expressing support and love to the few Romans who remained in the city, due to barbarism. “Tonight we unite our prayers with theirs and show them that we are close to them”, Mr. Nektarios concluded his speech!
Then the divine service was performed.
