Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios” Our generation is perverted”

On Sunday, August 25, 2019, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Church of Virgin Mary Odigitria in Pelekas.

In his sermon Metropolitan of Corfu analyzed the Evangelical reading of the day, the healing of the lunar by the Lord. Jesus Christ describes the generation of His age as unbelieving and perverted. And He wonders: How do I feel when I’m here? So until when will I  tolerate you? After healing the lunatic, the Disciples asked the Lord why they could not heal the demoniac, receiving the answer, for their infidelity. Faith is an inner power that is not acquired in any way, but through prayer, humility, and sharing in the mysterious life of our Church. The Apostle Peter, seeing the Lord on the water and as long as he had faith, went to meet Him walking on the sea. But when he was short-tempered, he was plunged. The Apostle Paul also stresses that faith without works is dead. And what are these works? It is love for God as well as brother, humility, forgiveness and the fight against temptation. A human being cannot believe that he believes in Christ, while at the same time his life does not interfere in any way with the commandments of the Lord. This man is described as a hypocrite. On the other hand, He continued, our perverted generation is also ours. Many people today are indifferent to spiritual life, but at the same time this is sad, they believe in dark and cunning spirits. They are repelled and are fighting the Angelic Forces, which call upon God and man and are sent for our salvation. The tragic consequences of this collaboration with the wicked and the dark are experienced by modern societies on a daily basis.

Concluding, Mr. Nektarios urged the faithful to turn their heart to Christ, especially today in a time of distortion and lack of faith in God.
