BISHOP OF CORFU, MR. NEKTARIOS: NO TO THE ORDERS OF THE NEW-IDOLATRY

His Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, did the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Monastery of Saint Theodoros in Kamara on the morning of Wednesday, February 17, 2021, on the occasion of the feast of St. Theodoros the Tyro.

Addressing the faithful who participated in the service, Mr. Nektarios stressed that St. Theodore the Tyro testified at a time when people were forced to worship the emperors of Rome as gods. When they realized that the soldier Theodoros had a different faith, he was “called a prisoner”. But the saint received parsimony from the living faith in the resurrected Lord and with devotion and love remained steadfast. She was thrown into the furnace, like the three children in the Old Testament, but at the source of the flame she found mental rest and lives in the century.

But we must not ask ourselves: all ages have shown idols to people and ask us to worship them. Today the idols come through the media, the laws, but also the orders of the New Age, of the New Order of Things. They ask us to deny the priority of faith, of love to the true God, and to worship these new idols. But clearly the voice of the Church has shown what attitude we should take towards the neo-pagan era. If we forget the way of faith and love in God, then we lose the way of eternity, because the new age has no vision of eternity. Hope is only the present, the present. Only life with Christ and courageous decisions can clear the landscape that opens before us. So Saint Theodore comes through martyrdom to speak to us and show us the true attitude towards the new age and our need to maintain our hope in the living God.
