BISHOP OF CORFU, MR. NEKTARIOS: LET’S REMAIN HUMBLE AS ALWAYS

On the morning of Sunday, August 23, 2020, His Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, officiated at the celebrating sanctuary of the Most Holy Theotokos Odegitria Agrafon in North Corfu.

Addressing the faithful, Mr. Nektarios stressed that the Virgin Mary is a spiritual magnet and gathers around her face all Orthodox Christians. This is because the Virgin Mary accepted in her flesh the Son and Word of God, Who united Himself, humbled Himself for our human salvation, to free us from the bondage of sin. But God the Father gave him the name in favor of everything and the humble one raised us to heaven, resurrecting our own human nature from the dead!

God cooperates with man in the person of the Most Holy Theotokos. We can do the same by sharing Him through the mysteries. The shell vessel of our existence then encloses God himself and we too can be exalted. We owe all this to Our Lady, to the mother of God, to the holiest and most honored person who has ever existed in the history of mankind. The Virgin Mary overcame the judgment of the Second Coming and that is why she is above all the saints.

Mr. Nektarios closed his thoughts by emphasizing that the Most Holy Theotokos taught humility from Christ. Citizen to death Christ, subject to the will of God and the Virgin Mary. That is why we celebrate her sleep as the culmination of her life. The Virgin Mary escaped from sin. He did not give in to the will of temptation. He did not ask to rule. He did not brag about anything. He even surrendered to death like all people. But she received the only blessing of her metastasis.

We must learn from the humility of the Blessed Virgin Mary and live without arrogance for our knowledge, our science, our degrees, our successes, technology, the possibility of human domination, but with trust in God and the will. His, to experience the joy of our own resurrection!

The Mayor of North Corfu, Mr. George Machimaris, also attended the church festival.
