BISHOP OF CORFU, MR. NEKTARIOS: LET’S LISTEN TO THE TRUTH OF PRODROMUS’S SERMON”
On the morning of Saturday, August 29, 2020, His Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, did the Divine Liturgy at the celebrating historic church of Saint Ioannis in Corfu.
Mr. Nektarios, speaking to the faithful, stressed that St. John the Baptist was the greatest in thought, word, faith in the true God, the one who invited the world to repentance, to the way of the Lord, to repentance, to salvation. . Saint John was the first to live ascetically and suggested to the people what he himself struggled to acquire, that is, the relationship with God. The life of the Forerunner from the beginning was an encounter with Christ. He rejoiced when his pregnant mother met the Virgin Mary. He talked with Christ before baptism and showed that meeting with Him is a meeting of baptism by fire and by the Holy Spirit. Meeting presupposes repentance.
That is why we need to listen to this sermon of repentance, especially today, in the age of lies, deception, atheism, deification of ourselves, as a result of which we reap the fruits of sin and apostasy from God today. The building is also damaged today, the environment and the planet were polluted due to our greed. We need to listen to the forerunner sermon, to prepare for the change of our lives. To turn away from our ego, greed, sin and surrender to the truth of God, to stop loving falsehood, but to be controlled by good and truth in order to be corrected.
The forerunner’s sermon was paid with martyrdom. But the confession of truth changed the lives of people both on earth and in Hades, where the Forerunner proclaimed the coming of Christ for the freedom of the world from death. Let us follow the forerunner voice, living in the Church!
