BISHOP OF CORFU, MR. NEKTARIOS: IF GOD IS WITH US, NOBODY IS AGAINST US
On the morning of Monday, January 18, 2021, His Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, did the Divine Liturgy at the celebrating church of Saint Athanasios in Loutses in North Corfu, in compliance with the public protection measures. Addressing the faithful who participated in the festival, Mr. Nektarios stressed that Corfu has so far received protection from St. Spyridon and the cases of the pandemic are minimal. However, the fear caused especially by the media makes people find it difficult to recognize the power of faith and participate in the sacred services as before.
Then, Mr. Nektarios referred to Athanasius the Great, who together with Saint Cyril, fought for the preservation of the truth of the faith. They fought against heretics who denied that Christ was the Son of God. They were not afraid of the terror of the powerful and of the exiles and persecutions, while they testified in the ecumenical councils that Christ came as the fulfillment of the words of the Old Testament prophets, that he was a perfect God and a perfect man and came to give us salvation. from death and lead us to eternal life. We are called to keep this truth today, at a time when there is fear for our lives and faith is considered secondary.
Mr. Nektarios also referred to the issue of vaccination, noting that he is not against vaccines. However, because there is skepticism, he asked the faithful to pray for enlightenment in God and to consult their doctors, while he stressed that this is not the first time that humanity is plagued by diseases. But we can not remain unharmed in the name of disease. That is why it is positive that the churches have finally opened. “O God with us, none of us”!
