Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “Church has forgiveness and love opposed to hate”

On Holy Friday’s evening, April 26, 2019 the procession of the Epitaph of the Holy Metropolitan Church of Virgin Mary the Spilaiotissa took place, with his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios. Just before, the Service of the Burial of Christ took place.

At Liston square, a prayer was sung and then, Mr. Nektarios addressed the faithful and underlined that the ones who mocked Christ were the ones who crucified Him and the ruling Class of that time. The element that made people take this decision was the hate. Hate of the ruling class of each time period resulting in martydrom of Christians, the Disciples of Christ and the other Saints of our faith. Christians’ blood runs everywhere to every part of this planet. People are murdered because they commited the “crime” of believing in Jesus Christ.

Moreover, the Bishop of Corfu underlined that today our Lord is hated firstly by the globalised civilisation that cannot stand faith and deals with it as a simple part of the identity. Secondly, by a great amount of intellectuals that believe they have found truth only in science. Thirdly by everyone who hates the Light, because they prefer the darkness to act in a bad way. Finally, all the ones who have power hate Christ by not recognising Him as the only Way, Truth and Life. To this hate, our Church has forgiveness and love.

In his conclusion, his Eminence after welcoming the many faithful Christians who came to Corfu, for the Holy Easter, wished warmly, the Resurrection’s hope to illuminate the steps of all people.
