BISHOP OF CORFU, MR. NEKTARIOS: BRAVE THE COURSE OF HOPE IN DIVINE MERCY

On the morning of Monday, October 26, 2020, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, officiated at the celebrating Holy Monastery of Agios Dimitrios Agioi Douloi in North Corfu.

Addressing the abbess Agathoktistis and the fraternity as well as the faithful who participated in the festival of the Monastery, Mr. Nektarios pointed out that today’s feast brings to the fore three seasons: the first was of the apostle Paul, who writing to his disciple Timothy states that ” the word of God is bound “, meaning the incarnate Word, Christ, which is not limited by people and time but is transmitted everywhere.

The second is the time of St. Demetrius, who was also imprisoned for the love of Christ and lived martyrdom, but did not stop teaching people the truth that is Christ, advising and bringing new people to the faith, such as his disciple St. Nestor, and making holiness a blessing for all mankind. The third age is ours, in which there is a softness in our spirit, we do not see the love of God as the first priority in our lives, but we care and love ourselves, not putting Christ as the head of our path.

As in the other two eras, so today the human laws, the human leaderships, wanted to imprison and erase the truth of Christ. But both Paul and Saint Demetrius showed a spirit of bravery. And courage means having certain hope in God’s mercy and enduring, as a modern-day saint, St. Sophronius of Essex, says. So let us put our faith in Christ, the courageous mind and the life of the Church above the human desires, concluded the thoughts of the Metropolitan of Corfu. Corfu MP, among others, took part in the divine service. Stefanos Gikas and the Mayor of North Corfu Mr. George Machimaris.
