BISHOP OF CORFU, MR. NEKTARIOS: AT HUMANITY’S STAGNATION, WE ANSWER WITH REPENTANCE

His Eminence the Bishop, of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios, officiated on the morning of Sunday, February 28, 2021, Sunday of the prodigal son, at the Church of Saint Nikolaos in Benitses.

In his address to the faithful who participated in the service, Mr. Nektarios stressed that the parable of the prodigal son testifies to the tragedy of man who forgets God and fights him, because of the sin that settles in the human soul, resulting in a great awakening. and much effort for repentance to come.

The prodigal son tried, as one of the hymns of the feast says, to be satisfied with the grain of sin. But the wind scattered this fruit, because in the end it was not wheat, but straw, far from the Father. But God is love and accepts us, even if we leave Him alone.

Today we see the quagmire of society. Where is humanity heading? We knew our homeland differently. Our language, our history, our culture. Today we live in a de-sanctification, as the spirit of globalization throws us into this quagmire, without values of language, homeland, faith, family. The family in particular suffers from the crisis in the role of parents, who do not seek God’s blessing in their lives and are not devoted to their children, nor do they seek unity in their relationship. Let the example of the prodigal son teach us.

In the parable, however, there are also critics of repentance, who are portrayed in the face of the big brother. There, many times, we Christians fail and identify with this person, losing the love of God, to which we are called to return.

So let us move forward in repentance, especially during this blessed period of the Trinity.
