Bishop of Corfu: “Connecting element of our society is the Institution of Church”

On Sunday, November 18, 2018, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of Saints Konstantinos and Eleni, in the village of Nymfes.

In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu analyzed the Gospel of the day, the parable of the foolish rich. The wealthy of the parable wanted to expand his warehouses and one evening God was presented and told him that at this night they were asking for his soul, calling him foolish. The first fault of the rich man is his self-centeredness.

Trapped in his ego, he had no communication with anyone, placing himself as the center of his life. Second, the rich did not think that all that he acquired was not his own. Every good we have is given by Christ. And thirdly, he neglected the sudden death, which we too are trying to get rid of our memory.

And the fourth fault of the rich is his foolishness. In other words, his stupidity and sloppiness in his life. If the sole purpose of life is the predation of material wealth, man is blinded spiritually and, in order to achieve this purpose, he is engineered in most cases of disparate ways. Conclusion of all the above is that the one who is rich with God, and not with earthly goods. The true wealth of the Christian is in heaven and is nothing else than the Lord Himself. No one can steal Him from our heart if we do not allow it. Living examples of the rich in God are the saints of our faith.

In closing, Mr. Nektarios stressed that in the difficult days we are going through, where everything around us collapses, the only link that remains and keeps our society united is the Church. This mental ship may be in danger but since it has Jesus Christ, it will not sink.
